The Black Rat Rideout -

Sunday, 19 September 2010

The Black Rat Fund Charity Rideout, which will take place on Sunday, 19 September 2010 in Catterick Garrison, will ride a fantastic route!

The rideout route will depart Marne Barracks out of our Main Entrance Gate and turn right towards Catterick Village.  Going through the village the route will give the local people lots of opportunity to come and support you as you ride through.

From Catterick Village the route then turns left and crosses over the A1, passing through the pretty village of Tunstall on the way up to Catterick Garrison itself.

The route will then take you all on an extended tour of Catterick Garrison - which is the largest Army Garrison in Europe.  Along the route you will get to see most of our major Barracks which are home to the soldiers currently on tour in Helmand Province - and meet our Garrison families who will be out to wave and cheer you on!  Most of these families have loved ones in Afghanistan and it's great for them to see the support you are giving them and their serving partners.

Be prepared for some surprises in the Garrison - as most of our Regiments will want to put on some kind of special welcome for you all!

The route section around the Garrison will also take you all past the Headquarters of 4th Mechanized Brigade - the Black Rats - who are serving in Afghanistan in Helmand Province during 2010 and who we are supporting with this Rideout.  As you ride past here you will see our wonderful Black Rat families and rear party soldiers waving - and a tank too!

After touring round the Garrison the route then continues out towards Richmond - and will pass right through the centre of town.  Be prepared to wave to our local Mayor and other civic leaders as you drive through - and big crowds who will have come to see the wonderful sight of so many gathered bikes!

As you pass through Richmond town centre the route will include passing the War Memorial at Friary Gardens.  This is where we will expect the largest crowds of spectators.   The rideout will then leave the town centre, and pass through the outskirts of the town.

After leaving Richmond the route will then take you through some of our wonderful local countryside on the Darlington Road - passing through the lovely village of Skeeby.  Again, be prepared for people out on the street to wave and cheer here!

The route then continues up to Scotch Corner which is our dispersal point.  From here riders can easily find suitable routes out of the area and their way home after what we hope has been a fantastic rideout experience of a lifetime!

The route distance is approximately 22 miles and will take about 1 hour to complete - although it might take a little longer if we have large crowds out on the day for you to wave to!

We think it's a great route - lots to see and lots of opportunity for our local residents and our Garrison families to come and see the awesome spectacle of so many bikers riding together.

We hope you will join us!
