The Black Rat Charity Rideout -
Sunday, 19 September 2010
PLEASE CLICK ON THIS LINK AND READ THE FINAL SAFETY BRIEFING FOR THE BLACK RAT CHARITY RIDEOUT - THIS IS IMPORTANT - ALL RIDERS MUST READ THIS!
This Final Safety Briefing was issued on 15 September 2010
We want you all to have a safe day - please also read the information below!

The Black Rat Fund want their Charity Rideout not only to be a massive success for all concerned, but also want it to be an incident free event. There is nothing worse than having a great day out, and then spoiling it by either getting a speeding ticket, or even worse, having an accident.
North Yorkshire and the Catterick Garrison area have some wonderful roads for bikers to experience - and we are delighted that you will come and visit us to enjoy them. We just want you all to do it without any dramas!
The Black Rat Fund have therefore agreed to work in partnership with 95 Alive and a number of other bike safety groups in order to promote road safety and provide a platform to promote safe biking.
We will be issuing a final safety briefing for all registered riders approximately one week before the event takes place. This final briefing will give you specific information about any issues or hazards we have identified and that you need to be aware of both for the rideout itself, and on local roads in the surrounding area. The briefing will be available via a link on this page. We will send you an email to remind you to read this, and will also post details of when it is available on our Facebook Group.

A message from Neil Strickland - Road Safety Officer for Richmondshire

My name is Neil Strickland and I am the area Road Safety and Travel Awareness Officer for Richmondshire and I would like to welcome you to North Yorkshire.
We’re lucky that North Yorkshire has such beautiful countryside and, with our roads becoming more and more popular to bikers, we’re happy to see the increase in people enjoying our county.
As a biker you’ll know that riding is a demanding and complex task, requiring a great deal of concentration and skill. The road conditions change frequently and you’re continuously on the look-out for hazards.
With the number of riders on our roads increasing we need to do whatever we can to make sure you are aware of the risks.
Last year 16 riders were fatally injured on North Yorkshire's roads and 100 were seriously injured so it's important that you stay safe. The 95 Alive York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership works with North Yorkshire County Council Road Safety Officers, The Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership and the Police and Fire and Rescue to reduce casualties on the roads. A website set up specially by 95 Alive gives advice and information on riding safe in the County. Contactwww.roadwise.co.uk
The majority of motorcycle crashes that occur on North Yorkshire roads could be avoided. They are not accidents, nor are they due to dark nights and poor weather conditions; they are usually due to rider error on straight roads followed by left or right hand bends.
I hope you enjoy your time in North Yorkshire and wherever you have travelled from I wish you a safe journey home.
